Mobile Universal Changing Station

Many children, teens, adults, and seniors with disabilities face an invisible barrier that prevents them from fully participating in community life. While most public venues offer accessible parking, ramps, and restrooms, very few provide the one essential accommodation that many individuals need—an adult-sized changing table.

For individuals who use incontinence products or briefs and require assistance with toileting and personal care, the absence of an appropriate changing space often means they cannot safely or comfortably attend community events. Caregivers are frequently left with no choice but to change their loved ones on restroom floors, in the back of a vehicle, or leave the event altogether. As a result, many families choose to stay home, leading to unnecessary isolation and missed opportunities to participate in the community.

The Arc Pikes Peak Region is working to change that.

The Mobile Universal Changing Station (MUCS) is a fully accessible, climate-controlled mobile changing space designed to restore dignity, privacy, and inclusion. Equipped with an adult-sized changing table and a safe, sanitary environment, the MUCS can travel directly to festivals, sporting events, community celebrations, resource fairs, and other public gatherings throughout the Pikes Peak region.

The MUCS serves children, adults, seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities who require personal care assistance, ensuring they can participate in community life with dignity rather than being excluded because of inaccessible facilities.

By bringing accessible changing accommodations directly to community events, The Arc Pikes Peak Region is removing one of the most significant barriers to inclusion and helping build a community where everyone—regardless of age or ability—has the opportunity to belong.
